The Calugara Monastery is built in the Mountains of Marila, under the Rol peak, in the neighborhood of Oravita. The Monastery was sanctified on 1 st October 1881, having the dedication day entitled „The Veil of the Virgin Mary”.
Inside the church is preserved the relics of a monk, found in the cave discovered on the site where the Calugara Monastery is nowadays. In the neighborhood of the monastery, in a thick beech, there is an icon of Saint Elli, the tree growing in such a manner that it didn’t shade the icon.
