The Roman Catholic Church in Băile Herculane
Religious monument
About
The church is the building that closes Hercules Square to the north.
It was built between 1836-1838, during the reign of Emperor Ferdinand I and replacing an older Catholic chapel that was on the same land, but which was destroyed in the 18th century by the Turks.
At the Catholic Chapel, Empress Elizabeth with her entourage attended the services of Passion Week, on Easter days, as well as on the other Sundays during her six-week stay at the Herculaneum Baths, from 1887.
Between 1997-2000, the church was renovated.
