The Iron Road

In 1858, on the 19th of May, a meteorite headed for Gradinari. Shooting stars from the mists of the cosmos have impressed mankind since ancient times. Meteorites were considered a gift from the gods because the pieces of cosmic rock were an iron alloy that could easily be turned into weapons and tools. The Greeks used to call iron "sideros" from "sidus-sideri" meaning "heavenly body".

The Iron Road follows a route that takes the curious through time and space to discover the history of steelmaking in Banat de Munte. The stories and tourist attractions of Banat from the regions with metallurgical tradition are the central points of interest.

In the past, the Habsburg Empire considered Banat to be the "Pearl of the Crown" and the achievements of the people of Banat remained a living proof of the mastery of iron art; from the Roman exploitations, to the first furnace in Romanian space, from the Constantin Lucaci Museum to the first mountain school.
