Route Baile Herculane-Varful Ciorici-Varful Elisabeta-Poiana cu Peri-Pestera lui Adam-Pestera Hotilor-Pestera de la despicatura
Distance: 4.1 km
Duration: 5.5 hours
Marking: Blue triangle
Degree of difficulty: Medium
From Hercules Square, go up the stairs to the right of the Catholic Church. Follow the marker and the path that winds up to Vârful Ciorici. From Piscul Ciorici the sustained climb continues and after 20 minutes of climbing, you reach Vârful Elisabeta where there is a refuge for the panorama.
Crossing the main path and following the markings, you reach Vârful Poiana cu Peri. In Poiana cu Peri there are several peasant houses and gardens. Return to Piscul Cioricii, go down two serpentine paths and reach the Grota cu Aburi. Hot steam (52° - 58°) with the smell of sulfur comes out of the cave, the steam being sometimes so dense that you can hardly see the entrance, which is quite large.
For Adam's Aven there is a descent, and for this reason the route is not completely marked. Passing over this stage of the route and coming down near the street, the path turns left towards the Thieves' Cave. Afterwards, continuing the route to the right, after 100 meters you reach the Cave of the Split: Here you can find the largest thermal spring in Valea Cernei, which actually formed the cave.
